Dr. Arthur Hess of the Bone and Joint Clinic of Baton Rouge has been selected as Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center’s 2022 Chief of Surgery. Dr. Hess joins a team of experienced and dedicated physician leaders at OLOL who are passionate about furthering the health and wellness of Baton Rouge and the surrounding communities. Dr. Hess noted, “It was an honor to be selected by my peers for this position, and it’s a privilege to serve. I’m looking forward to helping continue The Lake’s mission of providing healing to those in need.”
Dr. Hess is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in orthopedic trauma, total joint replacements, hip, knee and shoulder reconstruction, and hip preservation. Among his most specialized procedures is periacetabular osteotomy (PAO), a safe and effective treatment for hip dysplasia in both pediatric and adult patients which allows many to avoid the need for future hip replacements.
Dr. Hess attended the Tulane University School of Medicine and earned his medical doctorate in 2009. He completed the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program in 2014. During this time, he served as Chief Orthopedic Surgery Resident at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and earned the Executive Committee Award for the highest scores on the Orthopedics In-Training Exam (OITE). Following his residency, he completed his fellowship at the prestigious R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, the first and only integrated trauma hospital in the United States. Referencing this experience, Dr. Hess also currently serves as the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center’s Orthopedic Trauma Director where he expertly steers the hospital’s trauma protocols and procedures.
