Steroid Injections for a Sprained Foot: Stephanie Barnes' Patient Story

Stephanie Barnes’ daughter was a practicing gymnast. As is often the case with children in physically demanding sports, she developed orthopedic injuries. Twice she broke her foot and was plagued with developmental heel issues that required regular monitoring. All these years later, Stephanie may not recall the name of the Bone and Joint Clinic doctor her daughter saw, but she does recall the quality of care.

Finding a New Baton Rouge Podiatrist

Fast forward to 2022, and Stephanie, a now avid pickleball player, finds herself with her own foot injury. Concerned by the level of pain that she may even have a break, Stephanie called to schedule an appointment with a Bone and Joint specialist for herself. This time, she saw the practice’s newest podiatrist,
Dr. Zachary Rohr.

During that first appointment, Dr. Rohr assured her that her foot was not broken and that her pain could be relieved with an orthotic insert. To Stephanie’s great relief, her pickleball game would not have to suffer. Still, she calls the sport both her passion and her nemesis, as it shortly landed her in Dr. Rohr’s office once more. This time, she had sprained the top of her foot.

“This time, he treated me with a steroid injection,” says Stephanie. “I’ve never had an injection in that area, and I was worried about the pain, but it didn’t hurt one bit. Dr. Rohr was very slow and patient. He made sure I was comfortable.”

Within a couple of days, Stephanie’s pain was gone entirely. She had a pickleball tournament just around the corner, and she knew there was a possibility that she wouldn’t be ready to play. However, Dr. Rohr resolved her issue so quickly that her beloved sport never had to suffer.

“He told me it was up to me whether or not I played. I had the injection on a Tuesday, and I was pain-free by Thursday. I played twice that week, and I’ll definitely be able to compete in my tournament.”

While it may have been her prior experience with her daughter that led Stephanie Barnes to the
Bone and Joint Clinic, it is her own positive experience and the hope of many more years of pickleball that will keep her coming back!
